Paediatric Lower Limb Orthopaedics
Dr Marcus Simonian provides specialised orthopaedic care for children and adolescents with lower limb conditions affecting growth, walking, alignment, sport, and everyday function. He completed dedicated paediatric orthopaedic fellowship training at the Queensland Children’s Hospital and manages both common and complex paediatric conditions.
Marcus understands that orthopaedic problems in children can be stressful and overwhelming for families. Clear communication, reassurance, and helping families understand the diagnosis and treatment plan are central to his approach. He aims to create a calm and supportive environment where children and parents feel comfortable asking questions and discussing concerns.
Many paediatric orthopaedic conditions improve naturally with growth, and careful assessment is important to determine when reassurance, monitoring, physiotherapy, or treatment may be appropriate. Marcus takes a practical and holistic approach to care, considering not only the condition itself, but also the child’s development, activity level, school participation, sport, family circumstances, and long-term function.
Conditions commonly managed include gait abnormalities, in-toeing, flat feet, knock knees, bow legs, limb alignment concerns, hip
disorders, sports injuries, fractures, growth plate injuries, and patellar instability. Marcus also provides paediatric trauma care, including management of lower limb injuries and selected upper limb fractures.
Where surgery is required, treatment plans are individualised and carefully designed around the child’s age, growth, and future development. Marcus works closely with families, physiotherapists, general practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to support recovery and ongoing care.
The overall goal is to help children remain active, confident, comfortable, and able to participate fully in school, sport, and everyday life as they grow.
As a father of three young children, he is well prepared to help children through what can be a scary time, ready to be silly and fun!
