Personalised Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery
Dr Marcus Simonian provides personalised hip and knee replacement surgery for patients affected by arthritis, degeneration, injury, and joint-related pain. Hip and knee replacements are among the most successful procedures in modern orthopaedics, often providing substantial improvements in pain, mobility, and quality of life when non-surgical treatments are no longer effective.
Marcus has undertaken training in hip and knee arthroplasty in Australia, as well as additional advanced fellowship training in France, with particular interest in personalised and kinematic alignment philosophies. Traditional joint replacement techniques often aim to place every knee in a standardised alignment position. In contrast, personalised or kinematic alignment approaches aim to better restore each patient’s individual anatomy and natural joint movement patterns where appropriate. This aims to minimise disruption to patients’ native anatomy, to optimise recovery and long-term outcomes.
Marcus performs both partial and total knee replacement, as well as hip replacement surgery. Careful preoperative assessment and planning are central to his approach, with treatment tailored to each patient’s anatomy, symptoms, activity level, and goals. Not all patients are suited to the same surgical philosophy or implant type, and recommendations are individualised rather than “one-size-fits-all.”
He uses modern imaging and surgical techniques to maximise precision.
Conditions commonly treated include osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, deformity, avascular necrosis, stiffness, instability, and failed joint replacements.
Marcus believes successful arthroplasty involves more than the operation itself. Education, communication, rehabilitation, and realistic goal setting are essential parts of achieving a good outcome. He works closely with patients to ensure they understand their diagnosis, treatment options, expected recovery, and long-term management.
The overall aim is to help patients move more comfortably, regain confidence and independence, and return safely to daily activities, with improved function and reduced pain.
